STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma Association of Extension Agricultural Agents held their annual 2004 Recognition and Awards Banquet July 8 in Stillwater. The organization honored members for their hard work, determination and achievements over the years.
"It gives me great pleasure to present the awards to those deserving individuals," said Max Gallaway, OAEAA Awards Committee chair.
The Distinguished Service Award is the most prestigious award presented by the OAEAA. Ron Vick, the Extension educator, agriculture and 4-H and Youth Development and CED for Okfuskee County and Keith Boevers, the agriculture and 4-H educator and CED for Kingfisher County received this honorable award.
Vick received his B.S. degree at Langston University and his M.S. at Oklahoma State University. He has worked with county and community leaders to secure a county sales tax, as well as provided assistance with the Oklahoma PRIDE program and consumer shopping surveys.
Vick started his career with the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service in Pittsburg County 26 years ago and moved to Okfuskee County in 1985. He has served on the Fairs and Show, Recognition and Awards Scholarship committees.
In addition, he has served in various officer positions, including serving as the state president for OAEAA this year.
Boevers received his Associates Degree from Redlands Community College and his B.S. in Agricultural Education from OSU.
Boevers began his work with the OCES in Kingfisher County in 1981. His years of service include being the agriculture educator and CED for 13 years and 4-H and Youth educator for eight years.
One of Boevers interests over the past several years has been to help develop a Quail Unlimited Chapter within the county, to teach land owners habitat enhancement and to also have seminars for youth over hunter safety.
The achievement award, which recognizes outstanding Extension agriculture educators with less than 10 years service, was presented to Bart Cardwell, Extension educator for Garfield County.
This year's OAEAA Friend of Extension Award was given to the Tulsa County Master Gardeners and the New Agent Award was presented Aaron Henson, Extension educator, Tillman County.
Current retirees were recognized as well they include, Walter Bruce Bigger, Murray County; Don E. Britton, Pottawatomie County; Gerald L. "Joe" Bullard, Leflore County; James D. Coe, Comanche County; A.L. Hutson, Southwest District area farm management specialist; Ron Justice, Grady County; Dean McCraw, professor emeritus, department of horticulture and landscape architecture; Ronald C. Robinson, Pontotoc County.
Harry Birdwell, OSU Athletic Director gave the keynote address.
